Is your dog ready for daycare?

Daycare is wonderful for the right dog. Here's how to tell if yours is ready, and how to help them settle in.

Doggy daycare is one of the best things you can do for a social, energetic dog: real exercise, proper socialisation, and a calmer, happier dog at home. But it isn't the right fit for every dog on day one. Here's how to tell if your dog is ready, and how to help them love it.

Signs daycare will suit your dog

  • They enjoy the company of other dogs, and are happy to play and share space
  • They have energy to burn, and get bored or restless home alone during the day
  • They're comfortable being handled and spending the day away from you
  • They're up to date on their C5 vaccination and desexed if over 6 months

Dogs that might need a little more time

Very shy or fearful dogs can find a busy group overwhelming at first. That rarely means "never", it usually just means building some confidence first, at their own pace. Puppies can start once they're fully vaccinated, and early, positive socialisation is one of the best gifts you can give them for a well-adjusted life.

Every new dog starts with an evaluation day

Rather than throwing your dog in at the deep end, every new dog begins with an evaluation day: a full day of supervised play so we can meet them, see how they get on with the group, and make sure daycare is a genuinely happy fit. Their very first visit is free. You can read more on our doggy daycare page.

Helping your dog settle in

  • A good walk before their first day takes the edge off any nervous energy
  • Keep goodbyes short and calm, long emotional farewells can make dogs more anxious, not less
  • Bring them consistently: familiarity with the same group and the same team builds confidence quickly
  • Trust the process, most dogs are tired-happy and looking forward to it within a few visits

Why the right daycare makes such a difference

Great daycare isn't a free-for-all. The best socialisation is calm, positive and guided, so dogs build confidence and good habits rather than getting overstimulated. Matched playgroups, structured rest breaks and a watchful team mean your dog comes home content, not wired, and that's the whole point.
